ABC News/Washington Post poll

Ksenia

Wednesday, January 25, 2006

In the news:

Senate Judiciary Committee recommends Supreme Court Nominee Judge Samuel Alito's confirmation.  The vote was 10 against 8.  Each senator voted along party lines, so republicans won.  Now it's up to the Senate to decide if Alito is qualified.

Bush administration offers its own plan to rebuild New Orleans after withdrawing support from a congressional bill.  Bush's plan is critisized as not doing enough, and that it misdirects funds.

Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales released a 42 page legal memo, which defends Bush's domestic spying program under the Patriot Act.  According to the Boston Globe the memo might be suggesting that Bush does not need the extention of the Patriot Act to continue using its powers against possible terrorist suspects.

According to new reports FEMA knew ahead of time that a hurricane like Katrina would destroy the levies in New Orleans and flood 90% of the city.

Did you know?

Oil companies are doubling and tripling their fourth-quarter profits, while we continue paying high prices at the pump.

Want to do something about Alito? Write to your Senator:

Mike DeWine http://dewine.senate.gov/   there is no direct link to the email form so go to the site, click on "contact information" on the left and then on the "email form" link in the first paragraph

                  George V. Voinovich http://voinovich.senate.gov/contact/index.htm

Just to let you know, they are both Republicans, but we are still their constituency, so we deserve to be heard.  And some of us met Voinovich and he is totally amazing, for a republican.

In the news:

It's the 33rd Anniversary of Roe vs. Wade-the court case that gave women the freedom of choice in deciding what to do with their bodies.

Next Tuesday, January 31 Bush will address the nation in State of the Union at 9 pm.  All network channels like NBC, ABC, and CBS should televise it.

Hey Everyone,

Exams are over, celebrate!

We are officially flying out a trial balloon (AP GOV) to see if anyone is interested in starting up the democrats club again.

Please let us know which days work for you guys.

Meanwhile check out the amazing website David put together for a Wittenburg Freshman running for State Representative in northern Ohio.  http://benforohio.com

Good luck with the new semester!
